Adults would not put this on a wall. Nine-year-olds absolutely would, and they are right to — a first swimming gala medal genuinely is the best thing that has happened that month.

Mount it low enough that they can hang the next one themselves. A display a child cannot reach becomes a parent's decoration rather than their own record.

The configurator can add their name, which for this age group is the entire point of the present.

These are the sizes available. If it is a present and you are guessing, guess upwards — a display that is slightly too big still looks right.

Mount it at their height. And buy a size up — children fill a display faster than adults do.

What it is actually made of

The medal hanger is AISI 304 stainless steel — food-grade, marine-grade, the same material as a good kitchen worktop — at 2.5-3 mm depending on which width you take. It will outlast the collection on it.

Medals sit on a single continuous bar. No hooks means no ceiling on the count and no gaps when a medal comes off.

Fitting it to the wall

Comes with stainless standoffs, fixings and a paper drilling template. On plasterboard use proper anchors rather than the plugs supplied — a full display is heavier than it looks.

Adding a second one

Most people eventually do. Mounted directly under or beside the first, the pair reads as a single wall rather than two separate displays. The widest version holds up to 110 medals across three rails.
