Only funny if the collection backs it up

The line is a joke that needs evidence underneath it. On four medals it reads as boasting; on forty it reads as dry, which is the intended effect.

So this is a display for somebody with a long record rather than a new one — a club runner two decades in, a swimmer who has been racing since school. Size it on the whole collection, including the ones currently in a box in the loft.

Long collections are usually spread across three or four places in a house. Gather them all before measuring, or the display will be a size too small.

The same medal display is cut in several widths. Buying as a gift? Count what is already in the drawer and go one size up.

What it is actually made of

The medal hanger is AISI 304 stainless steel — food-grade, marine-grade, the same material as a good kitchen worktop — at 2.5-3 mm depending on which width you take. It will outlast the collection on it.

Medals sit on a single continuous bar. No hooks means no ceiling on the count and no gaps when a medal comes off.

Fitting it to the wall

Comes with stainless standoffs, fixings and a paper drilling template. On plasterboard use proper anchors rather than the plugs supplied — a full display is heavier than it looks.

Adding a second one

Most people eventually do. Mounted directly under or beside the first, the pair reads as a single wall rather than two separate displays. The widest version holds up to 110 medals across three rails.
